Wolmi-do, Green Beach 15Sep1950(Page 2)



(Left)Green Beach. Lt Col Taplett's 3rd Bn 5th Marines landing early morning of 15Sep1950. The weather was overcast with light rain. All during the day we received reports on their progress and it was encouraging to know that the island would soon be in our hands. We were embarked aboard the Henrico just waiting for our turn to hit Red Beach scheduled to be about 5:30PM

(Right)Wolmi-do mopping up later in the day 15Sep1950. Doesn't look like much is left. 3rd Bn 5th Marines had done their job in securing the island. This was a most important objective to insure the success of the subsequent landing at Inchon on Red Beach

(Left)Wolmi-do...clearing a tunnel 15Sep1950. Using flamethowers and all other available weapons to clear tunnels or bunkers of the defeated enemy.



(Right)Securing the causeway from Wolmi-do to Red Beach, Inchon. Tanks would cross this later that evening. 3rd Bn Marines would have a ring side seat to view the landing of 1st Bn and 2nd Bn on Red Beach.

(Left)The view of Red Beach from Wolmi-do 15Sep1950. All available weapons were unloaded on Red Beach. The Navy with all of its guns including rockets, The air support with bombs, rockets, and cannons making their strafing runs. It hardly seemed possible for anyone to survive, however their were still quite few of the enemy that put up resistance as we landed at 5:30PM
